FAQ

How do I use this thing?

Enter in search terms to find courses. For example, for 3rd year Psychology courses, enter "PSY3" into the Course Code search box and hit Show Me!. For Psychology courses taught by Peterson, enter in "Peterson" in the instructor field as well and hit Show me! Right now, searching by time is text only so you've to type in "W" to get Wednesday courses. The other part of using this thing is letting your friends know about this. Please share this on your Facebook and anywhere else you think students could make use of this. This is a program in development, so if you come across any bugs, please let me know here.

What do all those letters mean?

You can find out how to read terms, section codes, enrollment controls, enrollment indicators, et cetera here.

How can I help?

You can help by doing two things: spreading the word by posting on your Facebook and anywhere else you can think of, and by sending me feedback from this contact page. If you can think of some place I should let know about this (a website or newspaper or whatever), lemme know, too. If you find any bugs, oddities, questions, criticisms, misinformation, lemme know at my email address, too.

Who are you?

Glad you asked. ;p. My name is Ammar Ijaz and I'm an undergrad student nominally in psychology but I take courses all over the place. I work at Hart House and volunteer at the Hart House Film Board. Try dropping by the Porter's Desk at Hart House and ask if Ammar's around. I work on interesting projects when I have the time. I'm currently working on workshops for students on how to beat procrastination. If you're interested, add me to Facebook or email me by going to this contact page and mention you're interested.

What's in the future for this program?

I'm taking a break from active development on this program (except bug fixes) to work on my procrastination seminars. Here's the development roadmap: 0.1 - searchable courses (done). Looking for a psych 300-level course? Easy.
0.2 will allow searching by time (if possible). UI improvements (geek speech for "make prettier"). Course Descriptions will be included, too. There are a few backend improvements to make, too: refactor code for testing (and write some tests), make the code phpdocumenter compatible, allow non-standard course listings to be flagged before they make it into the database, seperate the backend and front end of Course Finder.
0.3 professor ratings from ASSU anti-calendar (and maybe from ratemyprof.com). Improved searching, likely bringing it down to one textbox + keywords and wildcards. Also show blank entries if you search for a keyword instead of just showing that keyword.
0.4 user ratings of courses and/or profs as well as comments pages and pages for courses/profs.
