I’m addicted to office supplies

I have a problem: I am addicted to office supplies. I spent multiple hours yesterday looking for WHITE file folders (not having them at Staples is inexcusable, but me going to three other places and finally finding them at Grand & Toy is more so). I was out and about with Samantha, who’s back from Halifax. She recently deleted her blog and I’m sorry to see it go. It was great seeing here again.

What did I buy yesterday? I bought the following things:

  • 100 WHITE file folders (I just like the white ones better). I’ve put 44 away for a tickler file, which will be created once I get some boxes for my ghetto filing system. The rest will be used for my regular filing system.
  • 1 Ream of 500 sheets of 11" by 17" paper (two letter-size pages stuck side by side) for mind mapping.
  • 3 pocket-size coil notebooks, for writing down every single purchase I make, as well as any crazy ideas I get. I rip out the pages at the end of the day and toss them into my inbox and then they are processed.
  • 1 plastic file portfolio thingy. This functions as my portable in box, as well as to protect papers and stuff which I’m moving around.
  • Post-its. Except they weren’t called Post-its, cause thats trademarked. These looked like cheap knock-offs made in China, except they’re made in the US and made by the same company that makes Post-its, 3M. They’re trying to control both the high-end and the low-end sticky market.

Be warned: Some personalities combined with Getting Things Done lead to slightly obsessive behaviour about organization. I have to have white file folders. There’s no logic there, I just love the clean look of them. I also almost bought a labellar, too, for my file folders, but I chose to defer that purchase until at least a month or two from now.

So I blew through my office supply budget for the next two months.

That is also up. I am creating a budget, even though I don’t have a static revenue stream, but its kind of fun. The most important thing is to keep track of every single purchase I make, and to make sure that my money will last, as well as plan for the future through saving for university and my eventual financial independence.

If you want to do something extraordinary, you can’t take ordinary actions.
