Humour
February 23, 2006 on 1:50 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentHumour is an interesting thing. I consider it a large part of my identity so I spend some time thinking about it.
I think humour comes from surprise. From the unexpectedness of a statement. I think that’s why taboo subjects such as excessive drinking, drug abuse and sex are funny. I personally, love doing parodies and satires. So, what I am making fun of has to fit into the format I’ve selected to parody. At the same time, it has to have jokes in it.
A Modest Proposal was a brilliant satire, but it wasn’t particularly funny (prolly because that was not the intention, except for a coupla sections but I think that’s cause I’m sick in the head). So, satire doesn’t always equal funny.
I think that’s one of the reasons shows lose their touch after about the fourth season because the audience starts to anticipate and recognize patterns. So, the comedy style has to be changed. Both to keep it funny and to give the writers and actors something new to play with. You get bored diong the same thing over and over again.
