Yay, another update on Photoreading.
I’ve had PR since October, so almost 6 months. Wow, I’ve really procrastinated. I went through the whole audio program a while ago, but I didn’t really practice or apply my skills very much at all. The main reason was that I had limiting beliefs that said that Photoreading isn’t possible. However, I decided I want to know how to photoread before I go back to school so I’ve been doing it more lately. I’ve quickly learned how hard it is to change habits, especailly reading habits but I’m getting through it at a fairly good rate now.
One technique that really helped was this:
"For example, you could bargain with your conscious mind like this: "Ok,
I know I probably can’t succeed in ______. But anyway, I just want to
have a little fantasy about it. So for the next 20 minutes, I’m just
going to pretend that I can. There’s no harm in that, right? It’s just for 20 minutes."
This actually has the effect of freeing your mind to visualise
powerfully about the goal. After all, you’ve already decided that you
don’t need to keep the visualistic realistic. It’s pure fantasy."
By Acting Like Godot, from here.
So I started imagining how my life would be different if I was Photoreading all the time. That helped me get over the belief that it’s not possible. I have also had to learn to trust my subconscious. I’m still learning to trust it more but I’m already gaining a sense of freedom.
Right now, I reckon I am able to cut my reading time down by between a half to a third of what it normally is. I’m going to keep practicing and get better at that. I also want to take reading comprehension tests, just to double check that my comprehension levels are still acceptable. I’m really happy with the way things are going. 🙂
